When Robert and Heather moved into their new home – a 37-year-old bungalow in Banff – they knew right away that one of their first projects would be replacing the tired old windows and doors.
The challenge
The property had been in the family, but the original mahogany frames had darkened the look of the house over time. The couple wanted a fresh start with a style that suited their taste.
“We’d always planned to change everything when we came in,” Robert explains. “The old windows just didn’t do the house justice. We fancied golden oak – it was purely personal preference – and we knew it would really brighten things up.”

The project

“We opted for essentially a like-for-like replacement,” Robert explains, “apart from changing the old large patio doors at the back to French doors with two side panels. That was just personal preference, it’s what the wife fancied.”
The process
While the legal paperwork on the property was still being finalised, they had already contacted Pinefield Glass to get the ball rolling.
“They came down, measured up and held the order until everything was completed,” Robert said. “Within the first couple of weeks of us getting the keys, we had them at the door ready to go. The turnaround was fantastic.”
Robert, who works in the construction industry himself, was especially impressed by the professionalism and responsiveness of the team.

The results
The transformation was immediate with the lighter frames completely lifting the look of the home, both inside and out.
“It has totally transformed our house,” Robert says. “The darker wood didn’t do it any favours, but now the golden oak has brightened everything up. The finish is lovely, the quality is great and we’re even getting comments from people on the street about how good it looks. On the back of us getting our windows done, some of our neighbours have also gone to Pinefield to get theirs done to match – that says it all.”
Alongside the visual upgrade, the couple are also looking forward to enjoying the practical benefits of their new windows and doors.
“Energy efficiency is another big thing,” Robert adds. “We’ve had such a good summer that it hasn’t really kicked in yet, but we’ll definitely see the difference over the winter months.”
