When Daniel and his wife, Mary decided it was time to replace a defective lounge window at their dormer bungalow in Milltimber, Aberdeen, they knew exactly who to turn to
Having previously used Pinefield Glass to replace two upstairs bedroom windows, Daniel was already familiar with the quality of products and workmanship. This time, the project involved replacing a large lounge window – and rather than simply replicating the existing configuration, Pinefield helped Daniel explore a new arrangement that would enhance the front of the property.
The result is a window that not only performs better but has given the front of their home a more considered and contemporary look.

The challenge
The existing lounge window, which had two side-opening windows and a large single pane, had been installed around 2017 but was beginning to show signs of deterioration. The large glazed unit had suffered failed seals, causing misting between the panes, while the outer seal had also deteriorated due to age and UV exposure.
Daniel explained: “The existing unit had several defects, including the vacuum being breached, which was causing the windows to mist internally. The outer seal had also deteriorated over time, so it was clear that the window was ready to be replaced.”
With the existing unit no longer performing as it should, Daniel decided it was time for a replacement.

Why Pinefield Glass?
Daniel had already experienced Pinefield Glass’ service first-hand after the company was recommended to him by a friend when he was looking to replace two windows in the upstairs bedrooms.
Having been impressed with the previous work, Daniel had no hesitation in returning to Pinefield for the lounge window.
He said: “We were really satisfied with the previous work, both in terms of the quality of the product and the installation. So when it came to replacing the lounge window, Pinefield was the obvious choice for us.
“For me, it comes down to value for money, reliability and diligence. They delivered a really good job the first time around, so we were more than happy to use them again.”

The project
Rather than simply replacing the existing window on a like-for-like basis, Pinefield’s surveyor took the opportunity to look at how the configuration could be improved.
The result was a revised design to enhance the front aspect of the dormer bungalow while providing the performance expected from a new installation.
The project included the full process from measurement and design through to removal, preparation and installation. The team also completed the necessary finishing work, including securing fixings, sealings and expanding foam to help prevent leakage and draughts, as well as dressed PVC panelling for the interior trims and a new interior sill.

The process
For Daniel, the experience of working with Pinefield Glass was “first class” from start to finish.
He said: “We were kept informed throughout the whole process, from the initial survey through to the expected installation date and final completion. The fitters were also incredibly diligent and we really appreciated their attention to detail. That was supported by the whole team behind the scenes.”
During the installation, the fitters identified a defect within the new largest glazed unit – an issue with the glass cavity that had not been apparent beforehand. Although it did not affect the functionality or efficiency of the unit, the team immediately raised the issue and arranged for a replacement once a new unit became available.
Daniel said: “The fitters themselves picked up on the defect and immediately raised it. Their attitude was very much, ‘No quibble – it’s not right, it’ll be replaced’.
“That really stood out to us. The way they handled it was excellent and showed they were really committed to getting the job done right.”

The results
The new window has made a noticeable difference to the appearance of Daniel’s home, with the revised configuration creating a more appealing look.
Daniel said: “Aesthetically, it’s far better than our original configuration – all thanks to the surveyor who gave us the options and helped us see the potential of changing the arrangement and enhancing the front aspect of our property.”
He added: “We’re really pleased with the finished result and the Pinefield team has delivered on everything we were looking for. The value for money and reliability have all been excellent, and we’d certainly have no hesitation in recommending them.”
